Today the vet told me that since Covid, they’ve had to treat a number of cats with depression caused by irritation that their people are at home all day. Obviously it’s not really funny but… that’s the most Cat thing I’ve ever heard. Apparently dogs do not have the same problem.

Just saw a reel that said staying home is good for anxiety and bad for depression and going out is good for depression and bad for anxiety, so I’m going to stand halfway out my door and let my brain have an overload of emotions 😭

The most overlooked sign of depression is hypersexuality. You’re not a freak. You’re just sad.

does anybody else have like really horrible chronic depression and sometimes you randomly snap out of it and think why sad if nothing's wrong and you feel a fleeting relief at the thought and then you forget 2 minutes later

You're a man. Get out of your fucking room. Pack your laptop and go to a coffee shop. A hotel. Rent a bnb for the weekend. Go to a different city. Go ANYWHERE, but your room After 37 years of age as a man, I’ve finally come to realize that the only cure to depression is just leaving the house at every single possible opportunity no matter how badly you don’t want to.

    > Be Richard Feynman > Teaches himself advanced calculus at age 15 > Fixes neighborhood radios for fun during the Great Depression > Recruited to work on the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos in his 20s > Gets bored while building the atomic bomb and starts picking locks > Breaks into his colleagues' top-secret safes just to leave them mocking notes > Completely breaks down the government's security system for fun > Loses his wife to tuberculosis and uses the grief to dive deeper into physics > Reinvents quantum mechanics by drawing simple sketches (Feynman Diagrams) > Wins the Nobel Prize in Physics for his breakthroughs > Refuses to take himself seriously or act like a stuffy academic > Spends his free time playing the bongo drums in a Brazilian samba band > Learns how to paint at age 44 and sells his art under a pseudonym > Travels to remote regions to decode ancient Mayan hieroglyphics > Investigates the tragic Challenger Space Shuttle disaster on live TV > Drops a piece of rubber into a glass of ice water in front of Congress > Instantly proves the O-rings failed due to the cold, cracking the case single-handedly > And Richard Feynman is still the most brilliant, chaotic mind to ever live who proved geniuses can have fun. > Feynman is badass.

Memory loss from depression and trauma is so underrated. Like, I did not forget on purpose, but my brain just decided to hit delete on random conversations, days, and sometimes an entire phase of my life. People talk about sadness, crying, and anxiety, but no one really talks about how your memory just starts glitching. You re-read chats like, "Did I really say that?" You forget things you should remember, and it's not even in a funny, "Oh, I'm grateful I don't remember," way. It's more like, "Why do I feel like my brain is constantly buffering?" And the worst part is, you start questioning yourself, like, "Am I overreacting? Did it actually happen? Was it even that bad?" Because when your memory goes away, your sense of reality kind of goes with it. But yeah, sure. Let's keep pretending healing is all about drinking water, journaling, and going for a walk..

losing my desire to listen to + ability to connect to music was one of the more frightening parts of my depression/breakdown/whatever. it’s always been a very major part of my life and just feeling absolutely nothing towards it was horrible

What does depression feel like? You don’t want to live, but you don’t want to die. You don’t want to talk to anyone, but you feel very lonely. You wake up in the morning and simply wait for the night to come.

Shoutout to everyone whose depression and trauma hit so hard that they ended up isolating themselves and losing their social life. You're not a bad person for taking time to heal and rebuild. Recovery can take weeks, months, or even years, and that's okay.

Depression is such a cruel punishment. There are no fevers, no rashes, no blood tests to send people scurrying in concern, just the slow erosion of self,as insidious as cancer, and like cancer it is essentially a solitary experience, a room in hell with only your name on the door.

My therapist said “people who struggle with anxiety & depression can't remember a lot, bc they're too busy focusing on how to get through each moment so they don t actually experience what is happening to them, causing them to not form the memory they were supposed to" felt that.

Depression is,nt just sadness. It’s hating yourself. Having no motivation to do ANYTHING . Never being able to sleep. Struggling to get out of bed. Knowing you have stuff to do, But can’t do it. Ignoring hunger. Forgetting about self care. Depression isn’t always sadness.

I am disgusted at the attacks on Dr. Fauci (a hero) by Rand Paul & Republicans. As health care workers were short staffed, separated from families, reusing N95 masks because of shortages, dealing with overwhelming deaths/loss/depression, Trump sent 200 ventilators to Russia. 🤬

Ninety-four years ago this week, the United States sent tanks against its own veterans, and most of us grew up never hearing a word about it. After World War I, Congress promised these men a bonus for their service, payable in 1945. Then the Great Depression hit. When their kids started going hungry, they came to Washington to ask for what they were already owed. Tens of thousands of them built a camp across the Anacostia River. Orderly, full of waving American flags, and racially integrated at a time when the Army itself was not. They were not agitators. They were desperate patriots asking their country to keep a promise. On July 28, 1932, the order came to clear them by force. Cavalry with drawn sabers. Tear gas. Six tanks down Pennsylvania Avenue. The whole shantytown burned to the ground. It disappeared from the textbooks because the men who led it became American heroes. But this is exactly the kind of story our kids need to know: the whole story of this country, the parts that make us proud and the parts that should make us wince. It is worth reading together.
