It works for videos, photos and animated GIFs. Because X serves media from a protected CDN, the final save happens on X's own media view, which loads the file directly for download.
How to download media from X

Tips for better results
- Use the direct post URL (the one containing /status/), not a profile or search link.
- For the highest quality, download on desktop where the original resolution loads.
- GIFs on X are actually short videos — save them as .mp4 and convert if you need a true GIF.
- Only download media you have the right to use, and credit the original creator.
