A Steam Machine owner says their system died after only about 20 minutes of use, making it what looks like the first reported Red Line of Death (RLOD) case. The console won’t boot anymore, and according to Valve’s support guide, the red LED pattern points to a GPU hardware failure. Since the GPU is built into the motherboard, it isn’t user-replaceable, so the system will most likely need to be repaired or replaced under warranty. The name “Red Line of Death” is a reference to Xbox 360’s Red Ring of Death.

Just days after PlayStation announced that all new games will be digital-only starting in 2028, Sony President and CEO Hiroki Totoki sold 225,000 Sony shares. According to a recent SEC filing, Totoki sold the shares on July 3 for an estimated $4.73 million. The sale represented 56.5% of his holdings in that class of Sony stock, leaving him with 173,250 shares. The stock sale happened shortly after Sony announced its move toward an all-digital future for new PlayStation games after huge backlash from everyone

Bethesda employees say HR made them remove a small memorial they created for coworkers who were laid off during Microsoft’s recent Xbox job cuts. According to the Bethesda Game Studios Union, employees in Rockville, Maryland, put together a “Celebration of Service” display with photos of former coworkers to thank them for their work. The union says HR had it taken down almost right away because it was in a shared office space. “Unfortunately, HR made our office manager take this down almost immediately. They said because it’s in a common area, it had to be removed.” “We’ve used common areas for many things as a team, including fan works, but HR seems to believe that a Celebration of Service is inappropriate.”

Please Sony, all I ask for you is to care. To care about the fans like me who love physical media. It's the feeling of having physical discs that I can't describe. Putting into the PlayStation and playing it, no better feeling As a long time fan, all I ask is that you care. The goodwill I once had is getting smaller by the day and the company that was innovative, fun and made the games I love is not the same anymore. A father in China is suing Tencent, NetEase, miHoYo, and 37 Interactive, asking for just 10 yuan (about $1.50) in damages. He is not doing it for the money, he says his son became addicted to online games, often played until 3 or 4 a.m., stopped eating properly, lost a lot of weight and later ended up in hospital after taking 18 fever pills. The father says children can still bypass China’s strict gaming limits by using adult accounts or borrowed IDs, so he asks the court to make gaming companies better prevent underage players from circumventing the rules. If he wins, the case could push Chinese game companies to introduce stricter anti-addiction measures.

Yea I think it’s GGs unfortunately. Buy your physicals on Switch, hope that Xbox takes advantage of this to make discs for next gen so the market that wants it can have it, and at least Steam/PC gives you more flexibility access for digital as well. If Playstation doesn’t want you, it’s gonna be up to you to make a stance to not want them back. This disc thing is like 1 part of the problem with Playstation. Studio shutdowns, billions wasted on live service games that never even saw the light of day, lack of first party games this gen, and clearly next gen things are gonna get WORSE. This is a PS that doesn’t care, nor needs to care cuz in their mind they are the default console people will buy. I hope they are humbled beyond belief going into PS6💀

Former PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida says Japan Studio was shut down because Sony’s priorities changed to focus on AAA According to Yoshida, Sony “wanted to drive hardware sales with games like God of War and Uncharted.” As PlayStation focused more on big-budget AAA exclusives, there was less room for the kind of smaller, creative games Japan Studio was known for. Yoshida also pointed out that the rise of indie games made it even harder for mid-sized AA titles to find their place. Japan Studio gave us classics like Ape Escape, Gravity Rush, Patapon, LocoRoco, The Last Guardian, and also worked on Bloodborne and the original Demon’s Souls.
