Set up your X profile for outreach

When someone gets your DM, the first thing they do is check your profile. Here's how to make it convert.

    Why your profile matters

Your profile is your first impression — and it happens before the lead reads your message. The moment a DM lands, they tap your name and scan your profile in 3–5 seconds to decide if you're worth a reply.

    1
    Photo & bio
Credibility check — are you real?
    2
    Followers & tweets
Authority check — do you have presence?
    3
    Pinned post
Value check — do you know your stuff?

A weak profile kills response rates even with a great message. A strong one makes every message land harder.

    Two profile strategies

    Indirect · soft

    Build curiosity, not pressure

Your bio doesn't sell — it builds credibility and sparks curiosity. Best for starting conversations naturally before pitching.

Clean headshot (no logos or cartoons)
    Bio mentions achievements, not services
Website links to portfolio or LinkedIn
    Pinned tweet adds value — a problem/insight

🚀 Building [Company] – helping founders scale with AI outreach
📍 Tweets on lead gen, automation & growth
    🔗 yoursite.com

Best for: conversations before pitching, B2B, agencies

    Direct · hard

    State exactly what you do

Your bio is a clear pitch — who you help, what you do, the outcome. Best when you want to qualify leads upfront.

    Professional headshot
Bio: who you help + the outcome
CTA in bio: "DM me" or booking link
Banner shows social proof or a bold claim

    🚀 I help coaches book 20+ calls/month with X DMs
📩 DM me for a free strategy call

Best for: coaches, consultants, high-ticket, fast qualification

Which to choose? If unsure, start Indirect — it's lower friction and opens more conversations. Switch to Direct once you've validated the offer.

    Alt accounts for agencies

Running outreach at scale across multiple accounts (Growth or Scale)? Use dedicated "outreach accounts" separate from your personal brand.

    Name/role
Use a role title like "Growth Lead at [Company]" instead of a personal name.
    Company in bio
Reference the company to build trust — prospects can verify it's real.
    Minimal personal branding
These act as liaison accounts. Keep them clean and professional.
    Warm them up first
Post a few tweets and follow some accounts before outreach. Zero-activity accounts look like bots.

    Mistakes that kill response rates

    Random username with numbers
Looks like a bot or throwaway. Use a clean, simple username.
    No photo or a logo
People respond to real people. Use a clear headshot.
    Empty feed with no tweets
Looks inactive or fake. Post a few genuine tweets first.
    Vague bio that explains nothing
If they can't get what you do in 3 seconds, they ignore you.
Salesy bio on a brand-new account
No credibility signals = low trust. Build history first.
    Following thousands, few followers
Classic spam signal. Keep the ratio reasonable.

    Pre-launch checklist

    High-quality headshot photo
    Clean, simple username
Bio uses Indirect or Direct (not both)
Website or booking link in bio
At least 5–10 tweets on your profile
    Pinned tweet shows a problem/solution
    Followers and following look organic
Account older than 2 weeks before heavy outreach
