Live trigger campaigns
A saved list is a snapshot. A Live campaign keeps watching a signal and DMs people the moment they show intent — new followers, repliers, retweeters, mentions, or a keyword.
Saved list vs Live trigger
Every campaign starts by answering one question: who should this reach? There are two answers, and they behave very differently.
Saved list
A fixed set of leads you scraped or imported. The campaign works through it and finishes. Best when you have a defined audience and a defined ask.
Live trigger
A signal XAutoDM keeps watching. People are added continuously as they engage, so the campaign keeps running rather than completing.
The five triggers
New followers
Nothing to configureDMs everyone who follows the connected account from launch onward. The single warmest signal on X — they raised their hand first.
Repliers of a tweet
Tweet URL or IDDMs people who reply to a tweet. It does not have to be yours — point it at a competitor's post or a viral thread in your niche.
Retweeters of a tweet
Tweet URL or IDDMs people who repost a tweet. A repost is a public endorsement, which usually makes it a warmer list than a passive follow.
Mentions of a handle
@handleDMs people who @mention a handle. Track your own to catch questions, or a competitor's to reach people actively evaluating.
Keyword or phrase
A keyword or phraseDMs people posting a phrase like "looking for a designer". The closer the phrase is to a buying signal, the better this performs.
It will not blast your backlog
This is the part worth understanding before you launch, because it is the thing most people are nervous about.
After that, the watcher polls the source on a cadence, compares what it finds against the seen set, and enqueues only genuinely new people. They then flow through exactly the same send engine as any other campaign — same pacing, same daily cap, same follow-ups.
Setting one up
Create a campaign and choose Live
In Campaigns → Create Campaign, at step one pick Live trigger instead of a saved list.
Pick the trigger and give it a target
Choose one of the five. All except new followers need a target: a tweet URL, a handle, or a keyword.
Write the message
Same editor as any campaign. Merge variables and A/B variants both work, and follow-ups still stop the moment someone replies. Reference the thing they engaged with — a Live DM that ignores the context reads worse than a cold one.
Set the account and daily limit
Live campaigns share the same per-account daily cap as everything else. If you run several at once against one account, they draw from the same budget.
Launch
The seen set is recorded immediately. From then on it watches, enqueues, and sends on its own.
What is filtered out automatically
Do-Not-Contact
Anyone on your DNC list is filtered out before they ever reach the queue.
Can-DM only
People who cannot receive a DM are dropped, so you never burn a slot on an unreachable profile.
Recently contacted
A global guard stops the same person being messaged again by a different campaign.
Per-poll cap
There is a ceiling on how many new people are enqueued per check, so a tweet going viral feeds the queue steadily instead of flooding it.
Getting good results
A Live campaign is only as good as the signal behind it. A few things that reliably separate the ones that book calls from the ones that get ignored:
Point tweet triggers at posts that filter for intent, not reach. A thread about the problem you solve beats a viral joke every time.
Use specific phrases for keyword triggers. "Looking for a designer" is a buying signal; "design" is noise.
Reference the trigger in the first line. "Saw your reply on the outreach thread" earns a read that a generic opener does not.
Run one Live campaign per account to start. Several at once share the same daily cap and will starve each other.
Turn engagement into conversations
Set a Live trigger once and it keeps working while you do something else.
