Source candidates on X and DM them directly
The best engineers are not on job boards, but they do post about what they are building. Find them by what they say, and message them without an InMail credit in sight.

Buried in applications, none of them right
- The people you actually want are employed and never see your job post.
- InMail costs a credit per message and reads like every other InMail they get.
- A connection request, a wait, then a message — three steps before a conversation.

Find people by what they build, not what they claim
Search X for the language a specialist actually uses, and collect the people posting it. A profile that talks about the work every week tells you far more than a CV keyword match.

Curated Lists are a sourcer's shortcut
Public X Lists exist for almost every technical community, conference and ecosystem, and somebody has already done the filtering. Lift the whole membership in one pass and narrow it from there.

Go direct, skip the gate
No connection request, no InMail credit, no waiting for an accept. If their DMs are open you can message them today, and the can-DM filter means you never waste a slot on someone unreachable.

Paced like a person, not a bot
Sends run under a conservative daily limit with human-like timing, so an account you use for sourcing every week stays in good standing. Follow-ups stop the moment a candidate replies.

Questions
Is DMing candidates on X actually effective?+
For technical and creative roles it often outperforms LinkedIn, because the channel is far less saturated with recruiter messages and you can reference something specific the person built or posted rather than a job title.
How do I find candidates with a specific skill?+
Three ways that work well: keyword search for the language they use about their work, the members of a public X List for that community, and the repliers on a substantial technical thread. The last group tends to be the highest signal.
Do I need their email?+
No. That is the point. If their DMs are open you can reach them directly, and the can-DM filter removes anyone unreachable before you spend anything on the list.
What makes a candidate DM get a reply?+
Specificity. Name the thing they built, be direct that it is about a role, say what is interesting about it in one line, and make the ask small. Anything that reads like a template gets ignored here faster than in email.
Is this compliant to use for recruiting?+
You are working with public profile data and messaging people whose DMs are open, which is ordinary sourcing practice. Anyone who says no can be marked not interested, which adds them to your Do-Not-Contact list permanently.
Can I run outreach for several roles at once?+
Yes. Keep one campaign per role with its own lead list and message, so your reply rates tell you which role and which pitch are working rather than blending together.
How many candidates can I message a day?+
It depends on the account: a verified account has a substantially higher safe daily limit than an unverified one, and new accounts ramp over their first two weeks. Full numbers are in the pacing guide.
What if a candidate is interested but not now?+
Mark them Interested and add a note with the timing. The Reply Tracker keeps the conversation and your note, so the follow-up in three months starts from context instead of from scratch.
