Reddit's answer to downloading every photo and video from an X profile is gallery-dl, with JDownloader as the runner-up, and gallery-dl asks for your logged-in cookies. Our own X Media Downloader saves one post at a time. Bulk profile download is planned but not available yet. This post covers what people use instead, what the setup costs, and what they say about the risk to their account.

How we collected this and what we could not see
We couldn't use Reddit's own search. The threads here came from a research pass of Reddit and X search results on 31 October 2026. On 1 November 2026 we read the saved copy of each thread, comments included. Most are r/DataHoarder posts from March to June 2026, and one is an r/Twitter thread from August 2026. We did not install or run any of these tools against X for this post, so "works" and "breaks" mean what posters reported. We left out a few replies in one thread that read like a sales pitch for a paid tool. We can't see anyone's account standing.
What people use today
Most people in r/DataHoarder point to gallery-dl. On 15 June 2026 the poster asked for the current best way to download media from an X profile and ruled out paid extensions that stop at around 100 pictures. u/Bubbly_Republic3365 recommended gallery-dl, and u/sonofgildorluthien called it the only real answer. Its README says it is a command-line program that needs Python 3.8 or newer. It lists Twitter among the sites that need authentication, and browser cookies are one of the supported ways to supply it.
JDownloader is the other name that comes up. u/Qail97 in that thread uses it and says WFDownloader is currently broken. In a May 2026 bookmarks thread, u/minhthanh3412 says WFDownloader stopped at 39 items no matter which link they gave it, while JDownloader grabbed everything they needed. JDownloader's homepage (read 1 November 2026) calls it a free download management tool.
If you only want to browse, a browser extension can do it. In r/Twitter (13 August 2026), u/acoolrocket says the Old Twitter Layout extension brings back the media gallery view, which beats going through hundreds of images one at a time. That gets you viewing, not saving. u/SpecialistSpirit2706 points to X's feature flags as another route, but says it works only until X removes them.
For lists of links, there's a yt-dlp front end. ReClip, a r/BestGitHubRepos project (27 October 2026), lets you paste several URLs at once. It takes post links rather than a profile, so you'd need the list of posts first.
What it costs to set up
Most of the cost is cookies. In another r/DataHoarder thread (4 March 2026), the poster had already tried WFDownloader, RipMe and gallery-dl. RipMe threw a Java exception. gallery-dl said it needed authenticated cookies to access the timeline, even after the poster exported cookies in the Netscape format. u/rka1284 thinks the likely culprit is Chrome locking its cookie file while it runs, and suggests closing Chrome fully or using gallery-dl's
--cookies-from-browserThe same poster called JDownloader "way too complicated" and asked for something simpler. In the bookmarks thread, u/Rufus4GEN lays out a seven-step cookie-and-user-agent routine for WFDownloader, and u/BorjaDAce replies that it didn't download everything for them either. In a March 2026 thread, u/werid says gallery-dl broke for them overnight, and the fix landed in the development build rather than the stable one.
Read together, the threads say that bulk-downloading a profile takes real setup. Expect to install software, hand it a login session, and fix it now and then when X changes something.
The account-risk part
A bulk tool running on your cookies acts as you. In the March thread above, u/jabberwockxeno says every Twitter ripping tool they tried over several years drew warnings or suspensions, and that even JDownloader on slow settings produced a suspicious-activity notice in their X notifications. u/werid says they use gallery-dl daily with no issue, and offers a guess about why. It is only a guess.
We can't see X's enforcement or anyone's account history. So we can't tell you a bulk tool is safe on a logged-in account, and we won't claim any setting protects you. If the account matters to you, weigh that before you export its cookies. For what X enforcement looks like from the user's side, see our post on inauthentic-behavior suspensions on Reddit.
Where our tool fits
The X Media Downloader takes one public post link and saves its videos, photos or GIFs. It doesn't ask for your X login, which also means it can't walk a profile. If you need everything, it isn't the tool today. Bulk profile download is planned, but we have no date, and nothing here is a promise that it ships.
